Hong Kong Art Exchange Association

The Hong Kong Art Exchange Association was established in 2018. It is a non-profit organization formed by a group of artists and educators coming from the field of arts and performance.

Members of the Association have years of professional background experiences from diversified art fields such as visual arts, music, dance, performing arts, youth and children art education, etc. The key members of the Association have been and continue to be involved in the promotion of different arts and exchange development in Hong Kong. They gathered to form the Association with an aim to promote art and cultural exchange for Hong Kong people and students to a broader level, so that more people can take part and share their art creation and performances here.

The Association also hopes to provide a platform for youngsters and children to publish their art works and raise their interests in art through organizing various competitions and exhibitions or exchange programmes with different organizations. Thus, to promote the development of art, culture and creative industries in Hong Kong.

4th Asia Youth & Children Arts Festival - Arts Competition & Cultural Exchange 2023


  • To promote art exchanges between Hong Kong youth and children and other countries
  • To provide an art exchange platform across Asia for teenagers and children in Asia
  • To make and to develop this event into a high-level drawing competition for Asian teenagers and children and it will be held annually
  • To allow different participating countries and regions to hold presentation and exhibition in turns. The first two exhibition were held in Hong Kong.
  • To gradually develop the exhibition into a touring exhibition in Asia
  • To provide opportunities for students to travel to various Asian regions for art and cultural study tours and exchanges so as to let students understand, experience and respect cultural differences.

More than 10 countries/regions of Schools, Art Centres and Institution across Asia, including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam will be invited.

The Arts Festival includes five elements:
(1) Arts Competition (Painting and Mobile Photography)
(2) Award Presentation Ceremony
(3) Art Expo
(4) Outstanding Artworks Roving Exhibitions
(5) Asia Arts and Cultural Exchange Programme

Our theme this year, Embrace Nature, echoes with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 15 - Life on Land. We encourage our youngsters to connect with nature and embrace it, while understanding the importance of protecting the terrestrial ecosystems and biodiversity for sustainable development.

• Expected no. of Asian participants: 50; HK Region Participants: 50*
• Day camp: Art activities Team Building will be conducted in English (with Putonghua), lunch is included.
2) Pattaya Arts & Cultural Exchange Programme: Expected HK participants: 30 - 50
*Only Arts Festival competition participants are eligible to take part in exchange programme.

Asian Arts and Cultural Exchange Programme 2023

Thank you for all participants’ support to the arts competition of the 4th Asian Youth and Children's Art Festival. To broaden students' horizons and experience of different Asian arts and culture, as well as to meet students from different regions of Asia, the Association arranges a series of arts and cultural exchange programmes for students to join.

All local students (Hong Kong) who took part in the Painting and Mobile Photography Competition are eligible to participate:

  1. Hong Kong Arts and Culture Exchange Day Camp (held in Hong Kong) – 14/08/2023
    • Date: 14 / 8 / 2023 (Monday)
    • Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
    • Location: Lions College (tentative)
    • Content: Local arts workshop in the morning, cultural exchange and team building activities in the afternoon (lunch included)
    • Teaching medium: English (supplemented with Putonghua)
    • Age: 6 - 18 years old
    • Quota: 50 (first-come-first-served)

Winners may be interviewed about their feelings when they leave the stage.
• Please report and register at the above designated time. Please be on time;
• Those who are late have to wait for the ongoing session’s presentation finish before further re-presentation.
• Winners have to leave the awarding and seating area after receiving the award;
• Loud noise, eating and drinking are not allowed in the downstage seating zone. Please switch your phone to silent/vibrate mode.

If the winners are unable to attend at the above timeslot, they can send their representative to collect the awards and/or certificates at the reception and take pictures at the selfie area (open for two days) at the venue. Or they can choose to collect the award, certificate and artwork at the office of the Association during office hours from 5 to 16 September 2023.

Outstanding Artworks Exhibition

The outstanding artworks exhibition will be held on 15th to 16th August 2023 (10:00 am to 8:00 pm) and 17th August 2023 (10:00 am to 6:00 pm) at the Exhibition Hall, 7/F, High Block, Hong Kong City Hall, Central, Hong Kong. It is open to public for free participation. However, due to the limited space, not all students’ artworks can be exhibited. Only the top three winners, gold and silver prizes artworks will be exhibited.

Exhibition Opening Ceremony
Date: 15th August 2023 (Tuesday)
Time: 11:00am – 12:00nn
Venue: Exhibition Hall, 7/F, High Block, Hong Kong City Hall 5 Edinburgh Place, Central, Hong Kong

• Representatives of all art centres/schools/organization are invited to enter the venue one hour earlier on that day for exchange purpose;
• All competition participants/winners are welcome to visit
• A professional photographer will be present to help taking photos for free
• All participants of the opening ceremony will be invited to take a group photo with the ceremony guests
• Attendees please fill in the attendance slip to facilitate the estimated number of people

Competition Rules

【Theme】Embrace Nature

【Painting】
· Painting Size: A3(297x420mm) or A2(420x594mm) size
· Flat painting in White paper
· Any form of collage (including glitters) or computer drawings are not accepted
· The entry must be an original art work and not duplicated from any other artworks
· No limitation on mediums and painting methods
· To be drawn and completed by the participant
· Paintings shall not be framed and should not be folded or curled while sending in
· Marks will be deducted if the artwork does not comply with painting format


【Mobile Photography】
· Photographs can be taken with any mobile phone.
· Three entries per person can be submitted.
· The digital size muse between 1-3MB.
· The photo has not been published in any public places, includes but not limited to personal social accounts.
· Photos can be edited by basic post-processing. Collage, retouch, filter or computer drawings are not accepted
· The organizing committee may require participants to present original image files for verification. Participants who are unable to verify the original photo taken by their mobile phone will be disqualified.

【Judging Criteria】
Jurors will score according to the following criteria: Theme Fitting, Aesthetic Impression, Creativity, Techniques and Composition

【Return of Artwork】
Return of artwork will be arranged by the Organizer after the exhibition. No additional charges to collect artwork from HKAEA designated point.
Delivery fee will be borne by the Participant/School/Art Centre/Institution through delivery courier. Details of arrangement will be announced later.

【Terms and conditions】

  1. One (1) entry is allowed per eligible participant for painting competition and three (3) entries are allowed mobile photography competition only. The first submitted artwork will be assessed.
  2. Participant information will be used for Certificates/Medals/Trophies (if any), please make sure the submitted name is correct. Please note that HKD$80 administration fee will be charged if there is any amendment required.
  3. If participant participates through School/Art Centre/Institution, all communication will be made through respective School/Art Centre/Institution instead of participant.
  4. HKAEA will not be responsible for any loss of documents or artworks due to mail delivery error or problem.
  5. By submitting the artwork under the applicable rules and regulations, all applicants have granted an unconditional license of the copyright of all submitted entries to HKAEA. Submitted artworks will be used for the promotion, publication, printing, etc. HKAEA will not provide any notice or compensation to the participants on the use of the artworks or relevant copyrights.
  6. HKAEA reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, modify or suspend the terms and conditions and/or arrangements of the competition without further notice.
